Shaun Hammonds is in his 11th year overall at Elba High School and with the Marching Tiger Band.

In the last 3 years, the Elba Marching Tiger Band, under the direction of Mr. Hammonds, received Superior Ratings at all marching contest, while receiving "Best in Class" Band (Atown 2017, Opp 2016). The band was also successful during concert season, receiving high remarks and scores at the Pea River Concert Festival. Mr. Hammonds lead the Band Program and ECS as it hosted its first Marching Band Contest and it was a success, hosting 11 bands and over 4,000 visitors visited our small town on the last Saturday in October. We look forward to hosting this event again this fall.

In 2018, he led the EHSMTB on a journey to the Windy City of Chicago, Illinois as they represented our community in the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade. This was the first time in many decades that the band has performed in a huge venue, with over a million spectators in attendance. It was a great experience for our kids and one they will never forget. Mr. Hammonds was honored to be able to organized this opportunity for our band and community.

During the 2013-2016 years, Mr. Hammonds built a strong program in the Foley AL feeder pattern, receiving superior ratings each year at Concert Festival (2014,2015,2016) and straight superior ratings at the Alabama Bandmasters Association State Performance Assessment Spring 2016. During this short time the band had grown from 70 members to 150 members strong. The band played concerts throughout the year and receives many generous compliments from the community at each performance. Through the leadership of Mr. Hammonds, the Foley Middle School Percussion Ensemble became a proud endorser of Tama Marching Percussion. The FMSB performed many times thoughout the community and was also the first band ever invited to perform at Wonderworks in Panama City Beach, Florida. As assistant for the Foley High School Mighty Band from Lion Land, Mr. Hammonds was very involved in the program as an assistant, instructing the Percussion Section and assisting various efforts to make the band successful. 


Mr. Hammonds time at Foley came after teaching six years previously at Elba High School in Elba, AL (2007-13). The band was very successful achieving Superior Ratings in all captions every year. Throughout Mr. Hammonds’ years at Elba, the band was invited to perform with the Dallas Brass, the Atlanta Pops Orchestra, the State Inaugural Parade, and performed for Governor Robert Bentley on his visit to the community.The band also had the honor to perform at Bryant-Denny Stadium on the campus of the University of Alabama as the Elba Tiger Football program won the 2011 Class 2A State Championship. Mr. Hammonds’ personal accolades consist of many letters of gratitude from state and local officials commending the band on outstanding performances and public relation. In 2011, he won the Director’s Award at the Little Big Horn Marching Band Contest, placing him among an elite group of directors that have been chosen to receive the award. Mr. Hammonds has had numerous All State/Honor band students and has placed many of his students in band programs at many different colleges/universities including Lurleen B. Wallace Community College, Enterprise State Community College, Huntingdon College, Troy University, Auburn University, University of South Alabama, University of Alabama, Georgia Tech University, Alabama State University, UAB, Alabama A&M University, Florida A&M University, and Florida State University, and various military bands.

Mr. Hammonds is also a successful basketball coach. He is back on the sideline for another tenure leading the Elba Lady Tiger Basketball team.

During his 6 years of coaching for Elba Tigers, he had a record of 97-52. Mr. Hammonds also coached the EHS Lady Tigers to the AHSAA Regional Tournament in Mobile, AL for the first time in school history (2011).

Mr. Hammonds is a 1998 graduate from Florala High School. He attended many honor bands and won many awards as a musician and leader during his high school career. He was awarded a sports scholarship and received his Associate Degree from Lurleen B. Wallace Community College in 2004. In 2005, he transferred to Troy University and received his Bachelors Degree in Music Education in 2007.


Shaun Hammonds is a member of the National Association for Music Educators, Alabama Bandmasters, the Percussive Arts Society, and the founder of the South Alabama School of Percussion in 2005. He is also an ambassador for Tama Drums and Percussion. Mr. Hammonds has been a Band and Percussion Instructor/Arranger for bands throughout South Alabama and Northwest Florida traveling during the summer months. He is also a member of the Southeast Alabama Community Band. He was a band assistant at Straughn High School in Andalusia, AL (1999-2005) and Opp High School (2005-2007). Mr. Hammonds has performed with various ensembles in Missouri, Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. He is a member of Green Tree Christian Fellowship in Andalusia, Al, where he leads worship. He gives all credit to Jesus Christ for his accomplishments in life.

Shaun has been married to Brandy Hammonds of Opp, Alabama for 17 years. She is a graduate of Lurleen B. Wallace Community College. They have 2 children; Maggie (17)-EHSMTB danceline captain, cheerleader; and Jordan (12)- EHSMTB member
